Econowave style with LE14a & SEOS12 + DNA360

  1. Oh...I had them placed at the other end. OK I will try n post the result. Thanks

  2. I assume the photo is the LE14 variant of the econowave crossover. Did you try listening to it?

  3. Don,
I have them put together for photo but didn't try on those. I switched to try the deluxe instead. Thanks for reminding me. I should try this the first place.

  4. Oh...... sorry to tell that I have tried different crossovers over the last week, none of the crossover meet my expectation. Since I have another 3 pairs speakers to compare, a pair of full-range Alpair12 on pencil, PMS & OB with 1858.
I thought I have to reconsider my approach, either copy a proven design & sell the 14a, or........Mmmm any suggestion.

  5. Swap the LE14a for 2226 or other 15" driver with a SEOS12/DNA360 crossover already worked up? That looks like the least rework (sawdust) required.

  6. Don,
I have the same idea to swap the le14a to something proven. The cheapest to go is Bill's Dayton 12, n Bill confirmed this speaker sound the best to him. I lately also talked to Mtg90 with his BC 15". I thought I would stick with new drivers for the reason that I don't have to worry about their physical performance, I mean weak megnet n or other mechanical problems. What do you think?

  7. There are thousands upon thousands of used JBL 2226 out there. If you can find a good deal on a pair (<$300?), they are hard to beat and will retain value. Of course buying used is always a challenge given the number of sellers that are willing to lie about the condition of what they are selling. If you can test and inspect before you buy them, no problem. If not, you might as well buy new (B&C or Eminence or??) and avoid the potential problems. If nothing else, if you don't like how they sound when new, you won't second guess if they were abused or reconed with a crappy kit.

  8. Don,

    You got the good point.
One thing I have to admit is I never have any chance to listen to one of this speakers. I really don't know what/how its sounds like. What brought me to this project was once I followed a friend to his friend place n his friend got a pair of Altec horn which was made up with 515/811/3000 if my memory reserved. I was hooked to this pair of speakers n thought there will be nice if I have chance to own a pair, or something similar since I don't have that much money to spend. It leaded me to cruise around the forums n finally settle on this built. But so far, on my built, I don't find any trace of that sound I'm dreaming of - from top to bottom. Sad, but I'll go on.........
Since I don't know nothing and would like to have some knowledgeable souls to chime in n tell me more so I could learn from them, but.....
This also is the reason why I have an idea to build a well/proven design so I could have chance to taste the goodies of this speaker and also a stepping stone for me to go for something better if I found the sound to my liking.

  9. I have my project revisit after talking to Ryan who kindly provided me 2 box design programs. The box size will be around 3.4-3.5 cu.ft. tuned to 30 Hz with one 4" x 10" round pipe.
I have very strong feeling the 14a with the 360 will sound good. Stay tuned.

  10. I'm working on a similar project. I'm using a LE14H-3 in a 3.5 f3 cab w/4" port 7.5" long. Using the SEOS-12 and DNA360. Not assembled completely but soon I hope.

  11. I put up a crossover and have them played for almost 3 hours. They sound pretty good with lots of bass, deep kick ass bass. Mids n highs are also fine. I thought they would be better if I feed them with some good capacitors that I have in hand.

  12. This is the crossover I have been playing around with the last couple of days. I have found the better the caps, the better the sound to my ears.
