Hi guys, I'm still tossing around dozens of ideas for what is unfortunately, a rather inconvenient speaker mounting location for my cousins living room/home theater. The latest idea I'm kicking around, that I'm really liking, is this: 8" Volt coaxial speakers + 12" midbass module. I like the Eminence Beta 12 in a 3 cu.ft. enclosure tuned to 60hz. Why coax? Because unfortunately, the speakers will be in-wall mounted (plenty space behind wall is available), well above ear level. And there will not be any center channel speaker. Music is mostly pop & rock and home theater will be all sorts of movies. The room is very large and also opens up to other rooms. Anyways, what do you think about the 8" coax, aimed towards the ears from 60" above floor level. And the 12" midbass firing straight ahead. Yes, 60" is mandatory. Maybe cross the 8" coax to the midbass at about 700hz or so? It only needs to go down to the subwoofer which will be low passed at 80hz. And lots of mid-bass energy is preferred. Dynamics is the name of my game. Eminence Beta 12: Home theater mock-up:
Adding a 12" woofer is a great idea. I'd cross around 300hz active though, if possible. Otherwise really gradual slopes with a crossing around 500hz might not be to difficult with a passive filter.
I think so too. Thanks for the tip on the 300hz. This Eminence is pretty nice looking too. It's the same exact price as the V8. Eminence Delta Pro-12A http://www.parts-express.com/eminence-delta-pro-12a-12-cast-frame-driver--290-510
