A 5.0 DIY Sound Group System

  1. Hi DIY Sound Group, fans and friends!

I'm contemplating using the SEOS speakers for a 5 channel system with a CSS sub. For mains I'm looking at the Fusion 12 Tempest. For surrounds I'm considering the coaxial speakers with the flat pack surround cabinets. For a center I was looking at the Fusion 6 MTM because I can adjust the orientation of the waveguide for horizontal use. I notice some people use the Fusion 8 MTM but it seems the design doesn't allow the waveguide to be rotated 90 degrees. I'm curious if a center channel is in the works that is designed with a 12 inch SEOS and say, two 8" drivers with CTCs on the horizontal plane. I'm thinking of a speaker like Ascendacoustics Sierra Horizon. I'm also curious about the 8" vs. 10" for use in the surround cabinet. It seems the cabinet will allow a 8 sealed or ported and a 10" but only sealed. Which one is the better design for surround use? 8" ported or 10" sealed?

Anyway thanks for your input diySG fans!

  2. HA!

That's EXACTLY the design I was thinking of!!!

    WOW

That would make a great center channel and perhaps even mains!

Strange he has the drivers rear mounted like that. Is he trying to align acoustic centers? Can't be as those midwoofers would have to be way further back and it looks like the 15" SEOS throat is really deep.

Do any of these designs have aligned acoustic centers? I've never read Dr. Gedlee's work but I always thought his waveguide was designed where the compression tweeter and woofer are time aligned.

I guess this is impossible for anything but a custom design waveguide as your mid/woofer would vary in it's acoustic center.

I'm curious if there are any drawing available of those various waveguides showing depth.

I'd like to use a few better quality xover parts as well so it sure would be great to have an xover schematic so I can see the various values. I know most expensive caps/inductors/resistors are BS but I've personally heard a difference swapping crappy sand resistors for mills and with caps changes using same value. Also those cheaper model Audyn and chinese sourced Obbligatos aren't THAT much more expensive depending on the value used and if they are on sale.

  3. Those aren't the final drivers, and they aren't under mounted like that. He explains in that thread that he was just doing some experimenting when he took that picture.

  4. Do you know where I can get a spreadsheet for all of the various models/designs?
