I have a diy subwoofer that I am looking to power. The box is 2 cubic feet, sealed, down-firing. Box: http://www.diysoundgroup.com/sealed-subwoofer-flatpacks/2-sub-flat-pack.html Driver: I believe the specs are as follows: I want to power it with this amp which is 200 wpc and is bridgeable from what I know. http://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/harman-kardon/citation-22.shtml Is this a good match and if so whats the best way to do it? thanks
I'm not 100% confident you've got the right specs for that driver. The image looks like it's a dual voice coil driver, but the specs just show 4 ohms impedance. One might assume that means dual two-ohm voice coils, but that's not how I'm accustomed to seeing that noted - so it makes me a little unsure. That brings us to the amp, which may or may not provide the power you need into the low-impedance load that driver will present. The manual says there is a switch to be pressed when using 4-ohm speakers. In general, that means the amp designers are unable to ensure the amp performs as you might expect with low-impedance loads. (That's not to say it's bad - I'm sure it's a great amp) I would prefer to find an amp expressly rated for 2 ohm loads. The usual suspects come to mind, but most of them are pro-audio gear. Have you looked at the Dayton Audio SA1000?
