I am thinking about modifying the EOS 8 to fit a Seas 27TBFCG by cutting off some of the throat and was wondering if anyone has tried anything similar before?
The EOS is too deep a waveguide for a dome tweeter, you would want a shallow waveguide like the DW-62S for the best results. Too deep a waveguide on a dome and you can get reflections in the throat which will give you a ragged top end response.
I would be shotening it by quite a bit actually. The seas needs a 1 5/8" hole which means I would basically chop off some of the throat until I get to the right hole size. This should leave the guide depth around 1 1/2".
